Father's Day Card

This is the card I made for hubby this year:

FRONT:

I used his own photograph which he digitaly enhanced by taking out a modern boat that was in the forground - yup he's pretty clever.  Then he softed the image.  He made a Sepia toned print and framed it himself.  I used one with just a hint of color, to go along with a scrapbook paper map that looks vintage and has old clippers much like in his photograph.

INSIDE:

I trimmed & glued (using PRO GLUE RUNNER) a piece of scrapbooking paper (vintage map with clipper ships) to fit inside card.  Printed my own Father's Day Sentiment Poem on parchment cardstock and glued it in again with pro glue runner.  Added a smaller print of hubby's photo.

CLOSURE:

I made the old fashioned closure by punching out circles of cardstock that I glued to scraps of the map paper.  Punched hole in center, added grommet & attached to card concealing it between the  layers of  card and scrapbook paper.  With one I added a string before pinching the grommet.  Now the card can be tied for giving, then untied by the receiver.

* I had much grander plans for this card, but I started it just moments before hubby phoned to say he was on his way home.  I will make another card with the added details and post in the future.

By the way my hubby loved this card, guess cause it had something of him in it too!  : )

Father's Day Sentiment

I needed a sentiment to add to a card my son and I will give to hubby on Sunday.

Because he loves photography and he took pics of the Tall Ships

                         (Replica Pirate Ships)

that came to town a couple of weeks ago - my inspiration started there with a pic, now I had a theme to build on.

I will post pics of my card/projects for Father's Day, next week after we give it to him.  This is his weekend off and we are planning on spending it outdoors, so I won't have time to post till later in the week.

Heres my sentiment (copyright c.thompson/cathiespARTies 2011):

Scrapbook Garage Sale HAUL

One of my local Scrapbooking shops had a garage sale - for anyone to sell their destash.

I LUV these garage sales!

I have gone a couple of times to sell, but I much prefer to shop.  I like to show up right at the begining of the sale, but today I didn't think I was even going to get there.  : (  I was going to go with a friend, but she had too much on her plate today.  Hubby was at work with the car and didn't get off work till 1:30.  When my hubby got home he asked if I still wanted to go.  Well the sale end time was 2:30; it was now 2:08.  " I don't think there's going to be anything left and everyone will be packing up or done so".

Anyway, we 'flew by the seat of our pants' down to the sale.  All were packing up or packed up.  The few who still had items left on their table waited patiently for me to rifle through the few bits of this and that they hadn't packed in their cars yet, so I wouldn't go home empty handed.

Here's what I got in my haul today:

I got almost 50 card basics with envelopes to add my personal touch -

these for non traditional Christmas cards:

these for snow themed cards:

these for traditional Christmas cards:

these for hot chocolate or latte cards:

these for any occassion I can use a butterfly on a card:

these for chic paris or kawaii style (because they also have the plaid) cards:

Come back and visit to see what I create with these!

I also picked up 18 sheets of double sided 12x12 printed papers by
cosmo cricket, graphic 45, pink paisley etc.

Most were Christmas, but I threw in a few Halloween as well.

All this for just $5.   Not too shabby!  Oh HAPPY ME!

GATE FOLD B-DAY CARD - Queen for the Day!

This is just one card I made using my Alice - Queen for the day!

Birthday card clip art kit  available at my Etsy shop (cathiesparties).

I started with a patterned card blank that I've never used before and I wasn't even sure if I would keep them or sell as destash.  The color and graphic design seemed to be a good match for this particular clip art card project.

Instead of using it as a plain folded card, I decided to turn it into a gate folded card.  This was easy to do since it was already a folded card.  I simply opened it up and scored a paralell line on either side of the score that already divided the card in half.  Each score mark was half way from the edge of the card to the original score in the center.  As shown in the following photo.

*Note:
I used a dry embossing tool to make score lines on a Martha S. Score board.

Next I cut a piece of black cardstock to fit the center of the card (between the two score lines I just made).  I glued them in place using my GLUE GLIDER (tm) PRO (double sided adhesive).

Using a Tim Holtz Die,
I cut a top note from pink cardstock that was previously embossed using a Birthday Sentiment embossing folder.  You can fairly see the raised embossed design in the photo below.

Next I added a strip of pink cardstock on either side of the black.

Now it was time to embellish.  I added my own clip art pics, sentiments, and flowers from my cathiesparties etsy shop kitI also inked a couple of crowns stamps & embossed with gold embossing powder to add to the top of the sentiments on either side of the card.  The birthday cake was an inked image I had in my stash so I colored it with gel pens & added it too!  I also punched a couple of tiny folk art hearts & popped them off the card using tiny pop dots.  I hand penned a dot & dash pattern around the sentiments - using pink ink on the (left inside) sentiment, black on the (right inside) sentiment.

On the front of the card I used one of the rosettes from my kit, along with a decorative border strip in pink & a bit of black satin ribbon.
